A cruise to the sunny south.

Our trip was great! Here are a few pics:

This was the view from the top of a mountain that we climbed. This is where we found the dog pictured below. The town in the picture took us an hour to walk to. The dog followed us the whole way. People who lived there were asking us if it was our dog. If I had found a post office, it would be our dog.

This is a bus that was crushed by this tree in the 70's during a hurricane. No one ever cleaned it up.

An Explanation of the Upside-Down Dog.

Between Christmas and New Years in 2009 we adopted a dog from the local humane society. We had lost our dog a few weeks earlier and I couldn't handle not having something follow me around the house clicking its nails on the floor with every step. haha. As soon as I saw this crazy little black and tan dog bouncing off her dog house I thought I better take her home. We took her for a walk and then filled out the paperwork. Within ten minutes she had an appointment to be spayed and we were to pick her up in a few days. This dog is one of the best dogs I have ever owned. Strangely she seems to have a fascination with looking at the world upside-down. (Please do not look at my hair, it normally hibernates under a hat all winter).

This was the best picture that I could get of the upside-down move. She does it when she stands up on the front door to look out and when she stands on the window ledge. it makes us laugh every time. Here are some more pictures of her, because she is the name sake of the blog. I live most of my life with her at my side.

Apples for all!

I like to think that there are many good things about being an animal living on this farm, but as it turns out, there is one VERY good thing about being an animal on this farm. Apples. I work at an orchard and vegetable market where I am always finding great treats to being home! Today at work we made 21 apple crisps! Needless to say there was a few apple peels left over that the sheep didn't mind snacking on when I got home! Not too much, but just enough. In the fall they love to eat pumpkins or grounders that I pick up in the orchard, they also really like bean plants, cabbage, cauliflower, pears and the list goes on. Treats for everyone because it makes them happy, and when they're happy, so am I.

A Cold Saturday Morning

The temperature was -16 degrees Celsius this morning when I looked outside but the sun was shining so it didn't feel that bad. There weren't too many frosty faces in the barn, but there were lots looking for breakfast!

and then they were happy.

Lots to do today so I'll leave it at that for now.
